Belle Meade

(St. Joseph of the Pines)

Why we love it:

  • Convent, tranquil, location
  • Atmosphere & upkeep
  • Housing accommodates multiple life stages
  • Fenced-in dog park available

Belle Meade is located at 100 Waters Drive in Southern Pines, and is part of the St. Joseph of the Pines network. They offer independent living, assisted living, as well as rehabilitation services.

Both town-home and apartment style housing is available to residents. Their spacious floor plans, beautiful ponds and gardens, dog park, and quality care options are only a few reasons this quality retirement community stands out in our books.

Belle Meade has a quality pet policy for pre-approved fur-babies. While we’re out, to see clients there for our daily dog walks, it’s common for us to see pet parents out and about their dogs.

Fox Hollow Senior Living Community

Why we love it:

  • Terrific, central, location
  • Friendly staff & environment
  • Regular activities for residents to plug into
  • Terrific spot for those who are seeking community

Fox Hollow is situated at 190 Fox Hollow Road in Pinehurst, and provides assisted living to a more intimate community of up to 85 residents.

Their cozy one-bedroom floor plans offer a spacious bathroom, small kitchen, and a living room foyer to relax in or sit and chat with guests. The staff is terrific about offering a range of regular activities that many of the residents actively plug into and enjoy.

While this location may not be best suited for dogs, it’s the purr-fect spot for cats! Over the years, while assisting with daily cat care for our pet parents there, we’ve noticed that residents readily bond with each other over their mutual love for their pets (and in sharing a few cat treats).

Bonus Points: If your cat decides to snub their wet food, you can always trade or pass it off to another senior resident with a picky cat of their own!

Penick Village Senior Living Community

Why we love it:

  • Convenient, and quiet, location
  • Friendly staff & environment
  • Customized rooms
  • Stellar on-grounds dining options
  • Housing accommodates multiple life stages
  • Terrific spot for those who need a more assisted living environment]
  • Proximity to downtown Southern Pines makes it perfect for visitors

Penick Village is situated in central Southern Pines. Similar to Belle Meade, it offers quality housing options to residents at all life stages.

Penick readily shines in their dedication to their resident’s comfort, especially upon move-in. New wall colors, as well as regular upgrades such as cabinetry and flooring, are refreshed with each new resident to ease the transition and make it your own.

For those with more mobility, Penick also offers beautiful cottages that are the perfect downsizing solution. Penick’s cottages are also pet friendly, upon pet approval, for both dogs and cats.

Best Of The Rest: Pet Friendly Assisted Living

TerraBella Southern Pines

Known for its vibrant assisted living and memory care programs, TerraBella explicitly promotes itself as pet-friendly, welcoming residents with pets (especially dogs, cats, rabbits, etc.), with guidelines for size and behavior. The community also supports pet-ownership by assisting with animal waste management, and connecting residents with local vets.

Magnolia Gardens

Located in Southern Pines, Magnolia Gardens is another pet-friendly assisted living facility in Moore County. They offer amenities such as meal services, personal care, and communal spaces for residents. The pet policy isn’t explicitly stated, so it’s recommended that pet-owners inquire directly.

Brookdale Pinehurst

Brookdale is a reputable, pet friendly, assisted living and memory care provider in Pinehurst. Potential residents must inquire about pets, during their tour, for consideration.

PetWise Search Tips for

Pet-Friendly Senior Living

  • Always confirm current pet policies. Facilities may change rules or have size/breed limitations.
  • Get your pet pre-approved, before signing the contract for your new residence.
  • Visit with your pet if possible. Observing interactions, of other residents and caretakers, can help evaluate comfort for both resident and animal.
  • Ask about resources. Some communities offer pet-sitting, walking services, or nearby veterinary connections (like us!).

PetWise Pro Tip: Just like when you first brought your pet home for the first time, pets need time to decompress and adjust to their new environment. Just like you do. Be sure to pace yourself, and try to limit interactions between your pet and others for the first few weeks.
